On those blazingly fast Wolverines

Wow. The SEC just can't match Big Ten speed. Michigan 41 Florida 35.

I guess it's time for those stodgy, slow, plodding SEC teams to start trying to recruit some speed to matchup with the faster-than-humanly-possible Big Ten players.

Even though Tennessee won (which is only because they didn't play Penn State), I have to laud Phil Fulmer. His quote, according to the broadcasters, was, "We're still trying to catch Tony Hunt from last year." At least one SEC coach is willing to admit that the so-called SEC dominance over the Big Ten is a bunch of bunk (they had a stat line up that said the SEC / Big Ten head to head bowl record over the past N years is 11-11).

So, everyone, please repeat after me -- "I will not claim the Big Ten can't beat the SEC when all the evidence proves they can."

By the way, as long as I am on yet another college football rant, Joe Paterno is now 6-2 in Bowl games since 1997 and 3-0 since 2006. Of course, the trolls waited until 8am Sunday before posting their usual vitriol about firing all of our coaches. I suppose beating yet another favored team in a post season bowl is something that any guy off the street could do.

My tolerance for college football is at probably its lowest ebb ever, but it is nice to see Penn State ending yet another season with 9 wins and a bowl victory.

SEC in bowl games over the past six years: 26-17
Big10 in bowl games over the past six years; 19-23

The Big 10 is the only major conference with a losing Bowl record (the Big 12 is currently .500)

Just imagine where they'd be without JoePa (i got lots of points in my pool by putting lots of confidence points in PSU).

I do agree that the pundits are full of shit when the talk about speed. It's all around quality. Florida couldn't beat Michigan because they got dominated at the line and Tebow couldn't throw. They had plenty of speed. Georgia crushed Hawaii not because of speed because of dominance at the line.

As an astronomer, you should know the adage about statistics.

The story of the year has been the SEC supposedly dominating the Big Ten. The head to head record in bowl games between the SEC and Big Ten has been .500.

There are dozens and dozens and dozens of examples of everyone saying how the SEC's speed is just too much for the Big Ten and how every SEC / Big Ten matchup is a sure win for the SEC. Who was the favorite in the Florida / Michigan game? You can continue to believe in the SEC domination myth, but it's done. The SEC does not dominate the Big Ten, unless you consider winning half of the games domination.

You know, I haven't heard people saying specifically that the SEC dominates the Big 10. I've heard them say the SEC is the best conference in the country and the BIg 10 is having a down year. I agree. I didn't say the SEC was light years better than the
Big 10. I said they were better.

There are more conferences than the Big 10, you know. If the Big 10 is so great, why did Indiana get crushed by Okie State? Why did Illinois get pounded by USC? Why did Michigan State lose? The SEC is 6-2 this year, the Big 10 3-4. If OSU beats LSU, then the Big 10 can claim to have been under-rated and equal to the SEC.

"As an astronomer, you should know the adage about statistics."

My example of the SEC being somewhat better than the big 10 is based on a sample of 85 bowl games. Yours is based on 22. hmmm.

PS - Are you guys coming out to Texas?

PS - Keep in mind that I thought going in that Florida was the most over-rated team in the country. I would have ranked them fifth in the SEC behind Georgia, Tenn, Auburn and LSU (all of whom had better records). They had Tim Tebow and ... well, a lot of "speed'. The bowl matchups this year are a little screwy (the best team in the SEC played Hawaii). Thank you, Rose Bowl Idiot Committee.
